Are Divas ‘out’?  Is ‘Down-to-Earth ‘in’?  Mighty Tiger Woods lost the Master’s to ‘everyday guy’ Phil Mickelson.  Jon Stewart swoons over Obama’s economic advisor and possible Supreme Court nominee, the refreshingly down-to-earth Elizabeth Warren.

Meanwhile, the top two online videos last week showed the overexposed Tiger Woods faltering in his Master’s comeback and down-to-earth Tina Fey acing her own return, skewering over-the-top Sarah Palin on SNL.

BTW, Fey and hilarious ‘Everyman’ Steve Carell topped the box office last week playing an actually believable (if zany) everyday couple in DATE NIGHT.  Has recession-era America had it with glitzy glamorous demanding Divas?

Blog BFF and screenwriter Caitlin McCarthy spots a trend, writing:

Are divas getting downsized in this new era? Take a look at who (and what) has taken a hit recently and you decide:

  • Diva politicians like John Edwards
  • Diva religious figures like the Pope
  • Diva companies like the ones who helped create the Great Depression Part Deux
  • Diva countries like the USA (sorry, in the past, we’ve had that “Do you know who I am?” attitude with the world)
  • Diva terrorists like Osama Bin Laden
  • Diva athletes like Tiger Woods
  • Diva entertainers like Kanye West and Jennifer Lopez ….                                                                                                                         I think trendspotter Caitlin is onto something here…   (photos: atypicalamerican.com, nbc.com, nydailynews)

Old hand Phil Mickelson snatched the green jacket and Master’s title from Tiger Woods. Of course, Tiger still qualified– after facing down doubts that he would implode in the middle stretch of the tournament– but he seemed sullen in his post-match interviews.

Mickelson, meanwhile, received warm hugs from his longtime Caddy Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay and his wife of 30 years.

Despite rumors already surfacing that Mickelson has had his share of scandals, there was no mistakening the rousing response from the crowd or the sense that a ‘putter’s’ version ‘poetic justice’ was in the air.

As Tiger has been learning in his Buddhism studies, and is now learning firsthand in life, struggle is constant.  Change happens. The green jacket does pass on, just as the surreal grass of a putting green cannot retain its color.

Will Tiger Woods ever again attain his former glory? Or is mortality catching up with him too, a little earlier than it might have had he not overplayed his lucky hand? Of course, this slight setback may only energize Tiger for future feats. And no doubt Mickelson will take some hits in his moment in the spotlight.

But from here, for this watcher, it felt right to see this shift in Tiger’s kingdom. Congrat.s to Mickelson and to those who’ve stood by him for years, his wife and family and his loyal caddy ‘Bones.’  We all come down to bones in the end, Tiger.  And it’s only a game…

TIGER’S POST-MISTRESS MASTER’S (UPDATED)  by Elizabeth Searle

Breaking: Phil Mickelson has taken the Master’s Title this year– how much of a setback is this for Tiger?

On and off the course, Tiger faced a huge test this week.  Blog friend Caitlin sent in a link to a bizarre new Nike commercial dramatizing a contrite Tiger hearing his deceased father.  Caitlin felt it made her skin crawl and my skin’s with hers.  WDYT?

Meanwhile, Blog follower ‘wd’ had a positive early reaction to Tiger’s Press Conference, calling it a ‘magnificent’ disgraced-celeb. performance that seemed to him ‘sincere.’  I agree Tiger has much improved his apology ‘game’ and does seem more at ease and at the same time more truly sorry.  And on the course?

Golf is a psychological game and Tiger Woods (as we’ve all learned ) is a mere mortal.  So far, his fabled superhuman powers of concentration have slipped a bit this week at the Master’s tournament in the unwelcome and unflattering glare of the scandal spotlight.

And what of Tiger’s estranged wife Elin Woods?  Understandably, she is skipping the Master’s.  Unconfirmed rumors say she may be pregnant.  Will she eventually rejoin her ringside seat as the tournament season plays out?

Do you find yourself rooting for Tiger, the supreme athlete, to win out, or for Tiger the ‘Cheetah’ to pay the ultimate price and lose his mojo?  My money (not that it’s smart money, sports-wise) said that Tiger would make some screw-ups on the golf course this week, just as he’s done so spectacularly off the course lately, in the game of life.

Linda K. Sienkiewicz's QUEEN OF ROCK

With the world watching, I wondered if Tiger the golfer would regain his pre-Mistress Mastery.  At first, he was proving me wrong.  And now, with Mickelson’s victory?  Do you want Tiger to ultimately emerge victorious?  Or is his reign ending?

And in this Master’s Tournament week, be sure to visit the celeb-inspired Masterpieces like Queen of Rock (right) on display in our StarLit Gallery.  We welcome submissions to the StarLit Gallery and will be choosing some of our online art for an onscreen role in the forthcoming short film from Bravo Sierra, now set to shoot in late April: Celebrities in Disgrace
