Who should join our Rogue’s Gallery of Disgraced Celebrities of the Year? While 2012 delivered no towering Tiger Woods sized scandal, there was Celebrity Disgrace aplenty as this handy slideshow reminds us…
Blog favorite Memphis Earlene weighed in- on her own fabulous blog- on the Paula&Petraeus scandal, which brought such memorable supporting players as the Kelley Girl twins.
Lance Armstrong fell from golden-bicycle glory, playboy Prince Harry bared all, Lindsay Lohan continued to be Lindsay Lohan. Justin Bieber among other young stars took some hits and threw some punches.
To me, however, 2012’s biggest ‘fall’ and loudest thud was the GOP elephant running up against reality. Leading the charge toward their own tone-deaf destruction with his over-the-top attacks on college student Sandra Fluke was foul-mouthed fulminator RUSH LIMBAUGH.
Rush is my own choice for DISGRACED CELEBRITY OF 2012. But let us not ‘rush’ to judgement. Feel free to weigh in with your own ‘winners’…
And three cheers to celebrities like BEN AFFLECK (alas, not running for MA Senate!) who’ve used their fame this year to promote more than just their starry and sometimes sorry selves.

i agree w/ u on rush
Hi Livvy and good to hear!
A PS to this post– ‘Morgan’ on FACEBOOK reminds me that we left out THE DONALD– let’s cast one here for DONALD TRUMP!
For me, it’s a tie:
* Donald Trump, who out-cheesed himself with his various offers/dares to Obama.
* Lindsay Lohan, for her nightclub brawls, Liz Taylor performance, and neglect to thank Charlie Sheen for a $100K gift.
Hi Caitlin–
Wow, you make a good case here for both of these characters. I kind of feel sorry for Lindsay. But not so, The Donald. Yes, Trump really may ‘trump’ the others this year– Arguably, he fell the furthest since he began the year, incredibly enough, as a halfway plausible Presidential hopeful (I believe that was still in this year) and ends it as more of a joke than ever. Cheers to you and thanks for many stellar posts and comments this year! E
John McAfee, a walking commercial for gun control.
A thoughtful choice, Litotes, and ties in with of course the most beyond-disgraceful event of the year. Thanks for consistently raising the bar here on the blog — E
It’s a tough call. If it wasn’t an election year I might vote for Paula Broadwell, but her fall is small compared to the GOP with its large cast of bad actors. Like Karl Rove, and his election night meltdown on FOX TV, rather like a large baby who’s stayed up past nap time.
I’m going with Karl.
Hi Memphis– Yep it is a toughie. I too want someone political and you are right that Rove was truly a big baby on election night. He’s symbolic of the whole GOP in that way and so a sound choice. Cheers for the new year– E
Rush has my vote with Karl Rove winning Best Supporting Actor to him!!!
Hi Penny– Yes, Rush did have great support in both Karl and ‘The Donald’; it’s hard to pick in this year of Republican follies, but it’s sure been fun to watch. Cheers– E
TRUMP TRUMPS THE REST
BY A HAIR (AND WHAT HAIR)
Hmm, Trump does indeed seem the most ‘celeb-y’ of the top nominees…
PS to ANTISTAR: And yes, I agree, Trump definitely has the worst hair– ever!
This just in from our blog’s political commentator OL’ BILL:
“My suggestion for worst celebrity in disgrace is media mogul Rupert Murdoch. He routinely exploited his monopoly financial position in the media world much like other plutocrats dominating other industries, but far worse he has corrupted large segments of public opinion with inaccurate news reporting and false analyses in Britain and in the United States. His propaganda has had an inalterable negative impact on world history.”
Well put, Ol’ Bill!
I can’t vote for Trump or Rush because they have been disgraced celebrities for years. My choice for 2012 is Willard “Mitt” Romney. As a man of faith–he was a Bishop in the Morman Church–he forgot how to tell the truth and lied repeatedly during one of the most disgraceful campaigns in history. In addition, he changed his positions on major issues–he had no true beliefs. His loss of integrity and honesty makes him a disgraceful celebrity.
Hi Barb– Well put as always. And harsh words for Willard, but true. Good point that Rush and Trump have been ‘disgraced’ for ages to many of us. What’s amazing– and scary– to contemplate is that Trump was actually taken seriously as a Presidential candidate not so very long ago. Cheers and thanks for voting! Elizabeth
I’d always thought that “Rush to Judgement” would end up being the title of Sandra Fluke’s memior
Yes, good idea– Sandra can use that title if she wants it!
