“So You Think You Can Write?” by Robin Finesmith

(HOLLYWOOD) – From the producers of “So You Think You Can Dance,” “American Idol,” and the Food Network’s “Chopped,” comes a new summer hit: “So You Think You Can Write?”

In our Celebrity Edition episode, four disgraced ex-U.S. governors face off in a battle to write the best Public Apology for a scandal involving sexual indiscretion.

(Programming note: currently in production, a special House vs. Senate edition, featuring sometime U.S. House Rep. Anthony Weiner, now “Weiner and Still Champeen” of the Sexting Division, vs. former Senator John Edwards, current frontrunner for “Recurring Nightmare.”)

Gubernatorial contestants are: Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, Eliot Spitzer of New York, New York’s David Paterson, and South Carolina’s Mark Sanford, who won “Best Excuse” in the earlier “Top 20” elimination rounds held in Los Vegas.

In our series premier, contestants will have 30 minutes to write their Apology. Here are the rules: they may not use passive voice, refer to themselves in the second or third person, or employ the phrase “deeply regret.”

Entries will be judged on: creative use of cliché, degree of contrition, and ability to identify transgression without using event-specific nouns or verbs. Bonus points will be awarded for self-righteous indignation.

Our distinguished panel of celebrity judges include: Grand Champion and Hall of Fame inductee Bill Clinton, former Governor of Arkansas and U.S. President; Sharon Osborne; His Holiness, the Dalai Lama; Judge Judy; Jennifer Lopez; and – what the heck…Stephen Tyler. SYTYCW will be hosted by The Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Phone lines will be open for public voting before entrants have finished writing.
